We think music magazines are popular because of their articles. Do you agree?

I do agree to extent that music magazines usually are made most popular by their detailed articles that they share with musicians however I feel that it generally relies on the type of magazine/ article that is being presented.  In a music magazine such as NME I think its audience would want to read this particular magazine to focus on its articles about music. In NME’s addition on the 17th of November 2012 there is an article on Jake Bugg with the heading ‘THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGING’ only a niche audience would get this intertextual reference to Bob Dylan’s song in the 1960’s where he lead and wrote music for some protests in the 1960’s which is why he became most famous. The whole idea that Jake Bugg is using the lyrics from his song not only will grab the attention of the audience who used to listen to Bob Dylan, but it also conveys Jake as the new Bob Dylan who classes himself as a true musician. Whereas in Top Of The Pops addition on the 4th of December 2012 they released an article about little mix more as a gossip about their lives then their actual music. There is intertextual reference to Rita Ora’s son How we do in the heading which the younger mainstreamer audience will understand when they see it. Little mix’s article is very scripted like a question and answer interview. If it’s down to theory we relate to the little mix’s article more than the Jake Buggs article because little mix’s article is there for the consumers entertainment, it entertains us as we can relate to little mix more as people, the have their embarrassing moments, throw teenage parties, have makeup and wardrobe malfunctions and have celebrity crushes, so they are like most teenage girls which is why the magazine Top Of The Pops is aimed at young teenage girls. Whereas Jake Buggs article is all about him being better than other artists and how he is all for music and he couldn’t care less if people like him or not so he can’t really relate to the consumer as they will think he’s a bit stuck up. So that is why I think some articles do make the magazine more popular, but not all articles can do this.
